The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) offers funding from the PA Postsecondary Educational Gratuity Program (PEGP) to dependents of public safety members who passed away while on-duty defending Pennsylvania.
Scholarship Details
- Waives any costs not already covered by other awards, including:
- Tuition
- Room and board
- Fees
- Renewable
Eligibility Criteria
- Age 25 or younger
- Pennsylvania resident
- Enrolled at a Pennsylvania college
- Child of a public safety worker who either
- died in the line of duty after 1/1/1976 and was a National Guard member, police officer, firefighter, rescue or ambulance squad member, or corrections facility employee, OR
- died in the line of duty on 9/11/2001 and was a National Guard member, sheriff, deputy sheriff, or was on military duty
Application Process
- Complete the FAFSA and Pennsylvania State Grant application
- Complete the PEGP Application
- Gather required documents, including:
- A certified copy of your birth certificate
- Letter of admission to your college
- Submit the application and documents before the deadline
- To renew the award, fill out the PEGP Renewal Information Request and submit required documents annually
This award may only be applied at public institutions in Pennsylvania. Private insitutions are ineligible.
